The Himan Brown Senior Program offers a wide range of classes that cater to the many creative pursuits of our members, including painting, drawing, poetry, memoir writing, acting and musical theater.

Our arts faculty are professional, practicing artists who strive to inspire and motivate our members. Here is what a few of them had to say about teaching at the Himan Brown Senior Program:

“I’ve been teaching the Himan Brown Senior Center poetry class, first as a substitute and then as the full time teacher, since 2005.  Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of watching our poets grow in their art. These poets are writing from the vantage point of having lived full lives. Consequently, their poems are wise, whimsical, profound, and often funny. We laugh together, and we are held spellbound by the beauty and art of the poems. I leave class every week inspired by these writers.  Their poems encompass every subject you can imagine. Though many write about aging as a part of life in general and in particular, the spirit around the table is one of a buoyancy that defies age.  I think this is because when you are making art in a community of artists who appreciate your work, age falls away and there is only the joy of life and art and community. I find this class moving and enlightening and a lot of fun.”
