FAQ

What is a typical week like at Trailblazers?

Trailblazers is a uniquely designed program that provides the right balance of independence and supervision for our young, teenage campers. The program seeks to challenge campers in age-appropriate ways that allow them to take risks in a safe environment that values each and every camper’s contributions.

Four days each week, campers depart from the Trailblazers’ bus locations in New York City for exciting trips around the tri-state area, including amusement parks, beaches, museums, water parks, sports games and more. Additional trips include team building and community service such as a New York City scavenger hunt or volunteering at a local food bank.

Each Wednesday, campers enjoy a "late night" and spend extended time doing specific activities, such as a visit to Great Adventure, white water rafting. On these days, dinner will be provided (vegetarian options will be available.) Campers return at approximately 8:30 pm. There are two overnight trips, which are detailed below.

Campers participate in an exciting elective of their choice one day per week throughout the summer. Activity options for our specialty programming are released each spring.

How do campers travel to and from camp?

We have designated bus pickup and drop-off locations around NYC. All buses are air-conditioned coach buses equipped with lavatories. Campers are supervised at all times. Drop off is as early as 8 am and as late as 5:30 pm.

  • 92NY – 1395 Lexington Avenue between 92nd and 91st Streets
  • Wagner Middle School – East 76th Street between Second & Third Avenue
  • Gramercy – 2nd Avenue between 19th and 20th Streets

** For West Side bus information, call the camps office at 212.415.5573.

Who are the Trailblazers staff?

We carefully select our counselors for their maturity, energy and experience with young adults. All Trailblazers counselors are college age and older. Before camp begins, the staff meets with the Camp Director for an orientation period where they learn the camp's philosophy: creating an inclusive community in which campers feel comfortable, safe and challenged. The Trailblazers Director and Assistant Director support the counselors, communicate regularly with parents and oversee the smooth operation of the program.

Who are the Trailblazers campers and how many campers are in each group?

Trailblazers campers are entering 7th through 9th grades at a wide range of public and private schools. The campers are grouped according to age as well as gender. Every effort is made to accommodate grouping requests. Each counselor will supervise a group of approximately 7 to 12 girls or boys.

Is it true that Trailblazers goes on overnight trips as well?

That’s right! Towards the end of the first session, campers spend five days at Club Getaway in Kent, CT. Campers stay in air-conditioned cabins equipped with private bathrooms. Campers enjoy each of their meals in one of Club Getaway’s three cafeterias, which include kosher and vegetarian offerings. The overnight adventure includes banana boating, pioneering, hiking, jousting, wall climbing, gyromat, mountain biking, exciting evening activities and much more.

At the end of the summer, Trailblazers will explore a city (i.e. Boston) for their last week of camp.

What about lunch?

Campers bring lunch to camp on most days as few destinations provide food concessions. Details for each trip are communicated in advance.

What kinds of activities will my camper participate in at camp?

What are 92NY Camps’ safety protocols?

Your camper’s safety is our first priority. From ensuring kids wear seatbelts on the buses to and from camp to staffing security guards daily throughout our campgrounds, we’ll keep your child safe. In addition, all staff are required to wear 92NY branded camp t-shirts to identify them as authorized adults, and Leadership Staff have camp-issued phones with walkie-talkie capabilities for easy communication within and beyond the campgrounds. All visitors to camp must have prior approval, and adults must have camper ID codes and be on an authorized pick-up list when they pick up their camper at the end of the day.
